Pseudocheilinus hexataenia - Six-striped wrasse

The six-striped wrasse (Pseudocheilinus hexataenia) is a very popular fish for saltwater aquariums thanks to its easy care.
When fully grown, the fish measures about 7 to 8 cm , and the characteristic six stripes that give it its name make the Pseudocheilinus hexataenia a real eye-catcher. Even though the six-stripe wrasse can be a bit shy at first, it is a very vital fish that likes to swim around the aquarium a lot.
In general, the Pseudocheilinus hexataenia, like all wrasses, is very easy to care for and feeding is also unproblematic. The omnivorous fish can be fed frozen and live food (e.g. Mysis, Artemia, Calanus, mussel meat, lobster eggs or zooplankton), as well as flake and granulated food.
Despite the uncomplicated care of the wrasse, a few points must be taken into account when keeping them:
The marine aquarium should hold at least 350 liters to ensure the fish has enough space to swim. The water must be very oxygen-rich and have a temperature of 22 to 27 °C . There should also be a reef structure with sufficient hatching opportunities , as the wrasse is very attached to reefs.
In addition, the six-striped wrasse is considered territorial , which can make it difficult for other fish to pursue it. Observations have shown that aggressive behavior is particularly evident when kept alone, while the animals are often more peaceful when kept in pairs or groups .
Another interesting feature of the six-striped wrasse is that it can help fight parasites such as Acropora flatworms (AEFW, red bugs), planarians and turbellarians, but the fish should not be used exclusively for this purpose in the aquarium, as there is no guarantee of this behavior.
