Salifert Magnesium Test
Salifert Magnesium Test for Seawater
Magnesium occurs in natural seawater in a fairly high concentration (1350 - 1500 mg/l) and is an essential component of chlorophyll, which is required for photosynthesis.
Without photosynthesis, there would be no plants, algae or corals. Magnesium also helps to maintain the right balance between calcium and alkalinity in the water by slowing down the formation of calcium carbonate, which normally absorbs many vital trace elements in the aquarium.
Maintaining the correct magnesium concentration is therefore very important and is indirectly responsible for the rapid growth of corals and calcareous algae by maintaining the balance between the level of alkalinity and the calcium content of the water. Magnesium is depleted either by algae growth or by using excessive calcareous water or by exceeding natural calcium, alkalinity and pH levels.
The Salifert Profi Magnesium test set is easy to use and reliable because it measures in increments of 30 mg/l. The results are not influenced by strontium or calcium.
